It’s a shame that society has trained us to be afraid of failure.
We are accustomed to having more of a fixed mindset instead of a growth mindset.
This isn’t our fault, most school systems made us this way. You got graded on whether you were good at something or bad at it, most schools never really focused on the actual learning process.
School made us feel like if we failed a subject then you just weren’t good at it.
Whenever you feel like things are black and white, you are showing signs of a fixed mindset.
Today you are going to shift to a growth mindset which will positively influence all areas of your life.
So get comfy while I explain what a growth mindset is and give you some actionable steps to shift your mindset.
What is a Growth Mindset
A growth mindset means you are open to trying new things and you look at everything as a learning experience no matter the outcome.
It’s looking at opportunities in a whole new light, you will never say “I’m just not good at this” you will say “I’m still learning this.”
With this mindset you will begin to understand that failure is no longer something to be afraid of in life.
How Can a Growth Mindset Help
This mindset will give you the courage to try new things in life.
The fear of failure holds you back from doing the things you have always dreamed of doing.
Just take me for example, It took me years to get serious about creating a blog because I was so afraid of failing.
I kept thinking if I don’t try then I can’t fail, right? My brain kept telling me I wasn’t good enough to start a blog and no one would read it.
Then I developed a growth mindset and started thinking I may not be great when I first start but I’ll get better day by day.
Developing this mindset helped me give me the courage to pursue my passion and now it’s your turn.
In the next section I am going to give you a few tips on developing a growth mindset so you can start pursuing your passions.
Growth Mindset Tips
The following tips are just a few ways you can start shifting out of a fixed mindset and into a growth mindset.
It’s a lot simpler than you think and with these tips you will be there in no time.
Separate actions from self worth
To have a growth mindset means to separate what you do with who you are.
Society has trained us to feel like our actions define our self worth which makes it harder and harder for people to grow.
Let’s take starting a business for example. Most people tie their self worth to their business, if they aren’t making a ton of money they feel like a failure.
But just because your business isn’t doing well doesn’t mean you are worth any less. It just means your business isn’t doing well and that’s all.
Our mind likes to feed us these negative thoughts when our actions don’t work out but just know there are many other factors that are in play when situations don’t work out for the best.
To have a growth mindset you need to start believing that what you produce is not who you are because a lot of the time that thought is what’s holding us back.
Be confident of the outcome
When you decide that the outcome of trying something new is going to be positive then you will have a positive experience.
Let’s say you want to try painting. If you had a growth mindset you would say “I am going to be great at painting.”
You have decided the outcome of painting. This blocks out all the negative thoughts that tend to clog our mind when we are trying something new.
Like in this example, when you first start out you probably won’t be great at painting and your mind will try to tell you things like “you suck at painting.”
But since you are confident you are going to be great then your mind offers you thoughts like “I’m not bad at this, I’m still learning.”
So it’s important to truly believe that you are going to have a positive experience with everything you try because it creates a more comfortable environment for you to grow.
Stop indulging in negative thoughts
Our brains love to indulge in negativity.
Negativity is the enemy of growth. That is why you need to do your best to fill your brain with positive thoughts.
It’s hard to grow when all you do is talk down to yourself. I know it’s hard to talk positively to yourself but you can adopt a little trick of mine.
For the past year I have been working on this method and I feel like I’ve almost perfected. Try giving your negative thoughts less power.
Whenever I have a negative thought I just laugh it off. I have sat in hundreds of lectures and I’ll think to myself “wow I’m not understanding any of this, lol I’ll probably figure it out later.”
Most people would have taken that thought and said something like “I’m stupid” but you don’t have to jump to that conclusion.
You could merely have a thought and decide not to indulge in its negativity. Our thoughts only have as much power as we allow them.
So if you stop jumping down the negativity rabbit hole then you will have more energy to focus on growing.
Realize failure is learning
Failure is not a bad thing.
It just means you aren’t great at something and that’s ok. You have to think of failure as progression. I know it sounds weird but hear me out.
Failing means you are probably continuously trying new things but they just aren’t giving you the desired outcome.
Each failed attempt means you are getting closer and closer to the desired outcome which is progress. See what I did there.
It’s all about how you look at it. So don’t view failure as a bad thing just view it as progress.
Do more mindset work
Changing your mindset is not an overnight thing. It takes a lot of work.
It’s all about figuring out the best ways to align your thoughts and actions to create your desired outcome.
The tricky part is that everyone’s brain works differently so you need to figure out what works best for you.
You will only figure that out by doing more mindset work. Of course it would be way easier if you had someone to guide you through it.
Oh wait you do, it’s me. I do talk a lot about mindset work in my email community also known as the lottery lifestyle community so if you want to do more mindset work I suggest you join us.
But anyways, like people always say practice makes perfect so just keep working on shifting your mindset and eventually you will start creating some astonishing outcomes.
Wrapping This Up
Hopefully now you feel more confident in your pursuit of a growth mindset.
Like I said previously, it’s not gonna happen overnight. It is a gradual process with a big payout.
Once you have a growth mindset you will start living without any fear of failure which will make life 10x more exciting.
