5 Simple Steps to Reset Your Life

May 31, 2022 · In: Reset Your Life

“Happiness is not ready made. It comes from your own actions.” ~ Dalai Lama

It is our job to mold our life into how we want it to look. It is rare that people achieve happiness with absolutely no effort.

It takes work but don’t worry it is a lot easier than it sounds. The first step to changing around your life is to reset your life.

You know how sometimes your phone is doing something out of the ordinary and you hit the reset button to fix it. This is the same thing.

Resetting your life is as simple as narrowing down what isn’t working and what is working. Then you can start removing the negative and replacing them with more positives.

I am going to teach you the areas of your life that you should examine and how to remove and replace to reach your ideal lifestyle.

Clean up your Mindset

Your mindset can make or break your life.

It is hard to live your best life when your mind is in a disarray.

It’s comparable to the state of your home, when your house is dirty it feels like your life is all over the place and disorganized.

But when you clean it you feel like you have it all together and you are on top of things. Your mind is exactly the same, you have to keep it clean.

So how do you keep your mind clean? Simple, remove the negatives and replace them with positives.

I know, it’s easier said than done but I am going to teach you the easiest way to do it.

Start by changing the way you speak to yourself. When you find yourself talking down to yourself, change the way you say it.

Like for example, “I did so bad on that presentation, I’m such a screw up” you could say “It wasn’t my best presentation but it’s not the end of the world”

You see the difference? The first statement is degrading while the second statement doesn’t put any blame on yourself.

It’s a lighter load to carry if you work on blaming yourself less.

So now every time you have a negative thought try reconstructing it so you are not talking down on yourself. Trust me this tip works wonders.

Cut out Toxic Social Media

Social media is supposed to make you feel good.

Unfortunately, social media can be very toxic and detrimental to your mental health if you are consuming negative content.

It is important to analyze what social media is good for you and what social media is toxic.

There are a few ways to decipher whether or not your social media is doing you any favors.

Ask yourself, how do I feel after I scroll through Instagram? Pinterest? Twitter? TikTok? If you don’t feel like your experience is positive on any of those platforms, then delete it.

I’m serious. I have heard countless stories of people feeling like they aren’t good enough because they see all these beautiful and successful people on Instagram, TikTok, etc.

If these social media platforms make you feel inferior then get rid of them.

Like for example, the only social media platforms that I use are Pinterest, Twitter, and TikTok.

These always make me feel good about myself and give me really good creative inspiration. So I feel like they have a positive impact on my life.

Now it’s your turn. take a good hard look at all your different social media platforms and be honest with yourself. Do you think any of these have a negative impact on your life?

If they do you can delete them but if you don’t feel comfortable with deleting them then just stop incorporating them into your daily routine.

You will be surprised at the amazing impact that this decision will have on your life.

Live Intentionally

Try to adopt an essentialist lifestyle.

Essentialism is the art of pursuing less but better.

A majority of the time we feel like life is passing us by because we are putting time and energy into things that aren’t important to us.

I know this is going to sound a bit philosophical, but you need to ask yourself  “what is my purpose in life and what does the perfect life look like to me?”

You only get one life, so you want to make sure you’re spending time on the things that are important.

Try making a list of the things that take up a majority of your time each week. then ask yourself how this contributes to my overall life goal?

If it doesn’t contribute to your overall life goals then reconstruct your life so you can stop pouring time into an activity that has no meaning.

I know this is easier said than done. Some activities are used to support the things that make us happy in life.

For example, I have a few side jobs that I am not particularly passionate about but I do them to support my blogging career, which is one of my passions.

Just make sure everything you’re doing makes you happy in some way, even if it’s an indirect effect.

It’s easy to waste time on things that mean very little to us.

There are countless people that will ask you to give up your time for things that do not line up with your life goal. But it is your job to tell them no and stay focused on the task at hand.

So make it a point to focus on the activities that make you happy.

Cut out Toxic People

People can have a big impact on your quality of life.

It’s good to surround yourself with positive people that have your best interest at heart.

It is always about the quality of people in your life, not the quantity of people. Even if you only have 1 or 2 good friends it’s better than having 30 friends that don’t care for you.

If you feel like you have people in your life that are negatively affecting you then I recommend interacting with them less.

This is a great plan if you are unable to completely cut someone from your life. Just do your best to limit your amount of interaction with them so they have less time to negatively affect you.

If you are able to completely remove them from your life then I suggest making that move. I understand it’s hard to draw that line but you have to focus on yourself.

It will be difficult at first but I promise you are gonna thank yourself later.

Focus On Who You Want To Be

Focus on being the best version of yourself.

Get out of your comfort zone and try things you have always aspired to try. I know it’s cliche but the sky’s the limit.

If you have always wanted to be a confident person, then act like a person that is confident until it becomes natural.

If you have always wanted to be adventurous then start acting like an adventurous person.

It is so easy for us to be stuck in our old ways but it takes courage to get out of your comfort zone.

Life tends to get boring and mundane if we are constantly doing the same things over and over again. Instead of doing that, try being the person you have always imagined yourself being.

A year ago I made it a point to try and eat different foods because I thought it would be fun. Now a majority of the time if I have the opportunity to try something new then I do.

I know it’s a small change but it is something that has improved my life and made it more interesting.

So focus on the type of person you aspire to be and do your absolute best to live up to it.

Conclusion

The key to resetting your life is simply removing the negative things out and focusing on what is important to you.

It’s easy to just cruise through life but if you truly want to be happy then it takes true effort.

You need to do your best to keep negative things out of your personal life so you can thrive. It is not difficult, it just takes a little effort and a lot of commitment.

If you enjoyed this post then share it with your friends and family. I’m in the business of helping as many people as possible so I would greatly appreciate it.
